I have just started a math grad program and the department is one of the top programs in my country. I have 3 classes this semestre; 2 abstract algebra & 1 analysis class. In algebra, we will follow Atiyah and Lang. I know that their languages are hard to digest. My plan is to work through chapters and then solve the exercises as much as I can. I have some basic abstract algebra knowledge, I don’t know Galois theoretic parts but seen groups, rings, fields etc. up to field extensions. So, what do you suggest to me? For example, should I study both Atiyah & Mcdonald’s Commutative Algebra and Abstract Algebra of Dummit & Foote’s and then try to solve exercises of Atiyah?
