Can informed consent and assent be gained from under 18 participants in an experiment where we are trying to gather data for 6 emotions? We want to provoke the emotions anger, disgust, fear, happiness, sadness and surprise. I can see some ethical concern around anger, disgust, fear and sadness, especially in the case of non-mainstream users with Profound Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD).
Given the unlikely chance that we receive ethical approval, and parental/guardian consent and achieve assent (when possible). Is this study ethical?
